If you've spent any real time out on the creek, you already know the single most frustrating issue with modern stream sluices: sluice flex.
You hike miles into a backcountry spot, find exposed bedrock, set up your drop riffle sluice, and get your water angle dialed in perfectly. But the second you dump a heavy bucket of loaded paydirt onto the slick plate, your deck bows. Suddenly, your carefully balanced water hydraulics go completely out the window.
When a lightweight plastic sluice twists or flexes, water channels heavily to one side. That causes paydirt to scour out on the deep side—washing fine gold right back into the river—while light sands and quartz clog up the shallow side. Worse yet, thin plastic decks tend to fight the current, lifting up and literally floating away downriver in the middle of a run.
I got tired of settling for gear that warped under heavy gravels or twisted out of shape on uneven creek beds. So, I took matters into my own hands. From initial CAD designs to rigorous field testing with experienced prospectors in high-flow rivers, we engineered a sluice that stays completely rigid, handles high volume, and locks onto every single micro-flake and heavy nugget.
Introducing the ChrisUndertaking 10" OG Drop Riffle Sluice—now officially available!
1. The 4mm Solution: Eliminating Sluice Flex for Good
The biggest flaw in standard molded drop riffle sluices on the market today is thin material. Manufacturers use thin walls to save on production costs, but thin plastic simply cannot handle the stress of turbulent water flow and heavy bucket loads. If your ground isn't perfectly level, thin plastic buckles.
We opted for heavy-duty 4mm thermoformed plastic. That extra wall thickness provides unmatched structural rigidity, completely eliminating deck twist, sagging, and bowing under heavy loaded gravels.
Even better, the heavy-duty 4mm construction acts as its own natural anchor. Once water pressure hits the wide 17-inch flare, the weight and engineered stiffness pin the sluice deck firmly down against the riverbed instead of lifting or floating away in swift currents.

2. Engineered Pre-Stratification Drop Zone
Catching fine gold starts long before paydirt ever reaches the main riffle section. Right on the flare of the sluice, you'll spot our depressed CHRIS UNDERTAKING branding. This isn't just logo placement—it serves a critical mechanical function as our Pre-Stratification Drop Zone.
As paydirt washes over the embossed text, the slight recessed geometry slows down heavy material and creates instant fluid stratification. The densest black sands and gold settle down to the bottom layer immediately on the slick plate. By the time your paydirt transitions into the active riffle section, the gold is already riding low and ready to drop into the very first trap.
3. Active Vortex Drop Riffles & Dual Support Braces
Once paydirt enters the main 10-inch channel, it meets our precision-molded active vortex drop riffles. These riffles are geometrically tuned to maintain a continuous fluid exchange. The low-pressure vortex inside each riffle pocket holds onto heavy gold while dancing light quartz and waste sands right down the deck.
To ensure those riffle dimensions stay 100% true across the entire 10-inch deck under heavy water pressure, we added dual stainless steel support braces along the body. These braces lock the channel width into place and double as rock placement zones when you need to pin your setup in exceptionally turbulent, high-flow rapids.

4. High-Volume Field Testing with Nick & Tristan
We didn't just design this sluice on a computer screen and send it straight to mass production. We put prototypes through brutal real-world testing out in the field. I handed early models over to guys who run their gear hard, including Nick from Picket Prospecting and Tristan.
Nick put the 10" OG Sluice through high-volume, fast-water tests where standard lightweight plastic sluices typically flex, scour out, or fail. The feedback was clear: the platform stayed rock-solid under rapid shoveling, held fine gold in extreme flow conditions, and made cleanouts faster than traditional carpeted setups. When seasoned prospectors put a sluice through its paces and report that it's capturing fine gold they didn't expect to catch, you know the geometry is right where it needs to be.
5. Technical Specs & The 30-Second Cleanout
Despite its heavy 4mm construction, the complete unit weighs just 3.4 lbs (1.54 kg), making it ultra-lightweight and packable for long hikes into remote gold country.
- Overall Length: 38 inches
- Flare Width: 17 inches
- Channel Width: 10 inches
- Material: Heavy-Duty 4mm Thermoformed Plastic
- Total Weight: 3.4 lbs
Key Features: Pre-Stratification Drop Zone, Active Vortex Riffles, Dual Stainless Steel Braces
Best of all? Cleanout takes under 30 seconds. Because of the ultra-smooth thermoformed plastic surface, there are no mats to scrub, no expanded metal to unbolt, and no carpet to rinse. You simply tip the sluice into a 5-gallon bucket, give it a couple of quick splashes of creek water, and your concentrates are fully recovered and ready to pan.
